41 And Elijah said to Ahab, “GO, eat and drink, FOR THERE IS A SOUND OF HEAVY RAIN (Something we’re familiar with in N.Ireland).” 1 Kings 18
In the account of Joseph in Genesis we learned that the prolonged seven year drought, reduced all Egypt to serfdom. There were only two groups of people who escaped falling into slavery and both had spiritual connections.
22 However, he did not buy the land of the priests, because they received a regular allotment from Pharaoh and had food enough from the allotment Pharaoh gave them. That is why they did not sell their land.
27 Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number. Genesis 47
Everyone else throughout Egypt became slaves to Pharaoh; they had no protection from the famine.
In the time of Elijah there was another famine initiated by the word of God’s prophet to the nation of Israel.
17 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.” 1 Kings 17
Elijah rebuked King Ahab and through him Jezebel, who had murdered the prophets of the Lord and established Baal worship in Israel.
18 After a long time, in the third year, the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “GO and present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the land.” 2 So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab. 1 Kings 18
The resolution of the famine and the idol worship among God’s people began with a ‘command to Elijah to GO’. God had sent Elijah into hiding for three years and protected him from the idol worshippers. Now God told him to leave the ‘Safe Place and Go’. Often God calls us to GO and He is with us as we GO, but we must be willing to step out and trust Him.
19 THEREFORE ‘GO’ and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28
The last words of Jesus to the newly birthed Church in Matthew’s Gospel were a ‘command to GO’.
God confronted Israel of idol worship through a command to the prophet to GO. That confrontation was to turn the whole nation back to God.
God has been confronting the powers responsible for the sickness in 2019 until today, three years of suffering for people across the world. Things are changing and God will see it through, “Go, eat and drink (Celebrate), for there is the sound of a heavy rain.”
God bless and keep you today.
