God may choose to bless others, even through you, BUT BE PATIENT, YOUR SEASON FOR HIS BLESSING WILL COME.
39 Now Joseph had been taken DOWN TO EGYPT. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was ONE OF PHARAOH’S OFFICIALS, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. Genesis 39
The Bible talks about going DOWN TO EGYPT (Egypt a type of the World) and UP TO JERUSALEM (City of Peace and Making Aliyah, for returning Jews). God used Egypt to provide for His people during famine and also a place of refuge for His Son, but it was never the final destination for them, nor us!
Does God have a ‘Potiphar’ in your life at this time? DON’T BEGRUDGE SERVING THEM, they may be part of His plan and preparation for your future. Joseph had to learn to take orders before he could give orders – be entrusted with high position as the ruler of Egypt.
More importantly there was a Hidden Connection with the Pharaoh. Potiphar was a captain of Pharaoh’s guard, whom Joseph would eventually serve.
Both Joseph and his father Jacob carried the blessing of God on their lives, even outside the land God had promised. We shouldn’t resent others being blessed through our service (others names may appear taking credit for our work, but God rewards His own). Better to have satisfaction from serving well and allowing God to promote us than having a bad attitude to those around us. We should always remember that we’re a living testimony for the Lord, especially if we’re known to others as Believers.
Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, 7 and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, ‘Come to bed with me!’
8 But he refused. Genesis 39
A major problem arose for Joseph right in the house where he lived and worked, Potiphar’s wife wanted to sleep with him, but he refused despite her repeated appeals, (trials may remain for a season) in fact he finally RAN FROM HER. Genesis 39:12 Good advice for those facing repeated temptations and not just sexual. Many areas, including business partnerships – RUN, don’t walk away from sin!
Once again Joseph seemed to have been harshly treated, now ending up in prison for resisting a sinful liaison. (No sin was recorded against Joseph, he’s regarded as a Type of Christ). But the Hidden Connection to the Pharaoh still remained as Joseph progressed further along God’s plan.
20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, THE PLACE WHERE THE KING’S PRISONERS WERE CONFINED.
But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 THE LORD WAS WITH HIM; HE SHOWED HIM KINDNESS AND GRANTED HIM FAVOUR in the eyes of the prison warder. Genesis 39
God kept Joseph and blessed him, even in the dungeon. His goodness never left Joseph’s life, no matter what his situation and He’s just as faithful towards His children now.
God bless and keep you today.
