We just have to be willing to be used, to take our place. Everyone has been called and sent here for a purpose.
Peter was Christ’s successor, what a thought it is that someone as fallible as Peter, with all his weaknesses was the one who actually became the new leader of the Church.
Peter was the one on whom the spotlight fell through the first part of Acts. He was the one used by the Spirit at the birth of the Church.
Once Jesus was taken up to Heaven, His followers withdrew to the upper room, a small group waiting and praying. The first thing recorded was an item of business, but it’s important to note. Peter acknowledged Judas was gone but said that he needed to be replaced.
15 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16 and said, “Brothers and sisters, the Scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus. 17 He was one of our number and shared in our ministry.” Acts 1
We’re not told the reason why Judas had to be replaced, though Twelve is the number of government and the Church (Ecclesia) is called to govern here on earth. We have drawn back to our religious assemblies but the Lord is calling us to govern again. Before the disciples could do anything, the gap left by Judas’ demise had to be filled. ARE THERE HOLES/WEAK PLACES THAT NEED TO BE FILLED BEFORE WE CAN GO FORWARD IN OUR CALLINGS? Peter called the disciples to fill the Hole.
“‘May another take his place of leadership.’(Psalm 109:8)
21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witnesswith us of his resurrection.”
The Lord can work with us and forgive us for past failures and even present ones, but we can’t face battles with parts of our armour missing and not intact. God was getting ready for a mighty move of His Spirit to forever change how people would worship Him across the earth. But first the gap had to be plugged and then the Spirit released.
It may be best for some of us to ask God’s Spirit to reveal any gaps in our lives that need filling today. God can move with power at any time, but the company of believers have to be prepared beforehand. Peter, no doubt led by the Spirit called for this be done in private before they were thrust into the public arena.
May God bless and keep you today.
