26 At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, BECAUSE THEY FEARED THAT THE PEOPLE WOULD STONE THEM. Acts 5

12 The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people. 16 Crowds gathered (many came to them) … Acts 5

Acts 5 begins with the sad account of Ananias and Sapphira, who lied to men, but also to the Spirit of God. Their judgement was swift in the manifest presence of God, a lesson for all when God moves powerfully on the scene.

The power of God’s Spirit saw many healed and delivered; this provoked a harsh response from the religious leaders.

17 Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.

Religion couldn’t stand the crowds gathered around the apostles and they were jealous. WILL THIS HAPPEN AGAIN TODAY? God sent an angel and released the apostles, but also told them to go right back and do what they had been doing, publicly in the Temple courts. The scene was set for a major showdown.

25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” 26 At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, BECAUSE THEY FEARED THAT THE PEOPLE WOULD STONE THEM.

The wicked forces who have been opposing God’s work in this day, also fear the people. They can only reign when the people are docile and compliant. But we saw yesterday that one of the marks of the Holy Spirit coming was great boldness released.

29 Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than men! 30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross.

Peter accused the religious hierarchy of the murder of Jesus and said that they, the apostles, were witnesses of His death and resurrection to the right hand of God.

33 When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death. 34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honoured by all the people, stood up …

The man who Paul studied under ‘stood up’ (no evidence he was a believer, but he stood for what was right) and spoke to the leading council. Gamaliel’s wise counsel prevailed; if this is from man it will fail but if they’re from God you can’t stop them. Again, there’s people who need to hear this now.

40 His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. (They still used punishment and intimidation, but they freed them.)

The apostles left REJOICING that they’d suffered disgrace for the Name (God’s Name), must have been very annoying for their opponents.

42 Day after day, in the temple courts (Publicly) and from house to house (Privately), they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good newsthat Jesus is the Messiah.

The Church is Rising to a new place of Boldness for the Lord. Hallelujah

13 When THEY SAW THE COURAGE (Something Visible) of Peter and John and realised that they were unschooled, ordinary men, THEY WERE ASTONISHED AND TOOK NOTE THAT THESE MEN HAD BEEN WITH JESUS. Acts 4

Holy Boldness, the mark of the Spirit on believers’ lives.

13 When THEY SAW THE COURAGE (Something Visible) of Peter and John and realised that they were unschooled, ordinary men, THEY WERE ASTONISHED AND TOOK NOTE THAT THESE MEN HAD BEEN WITH JESUS. Acts 4

Peter and John were standing before the Jewish Sanhedrin because of healing a crippled man, but something in their behaviour was different.

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness …  10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, … that this man stands before you healed. Acts 4

Peter spoke to the whole ruling body and the people under the anointing of the Spirit and they didn’t understand how this was happening, but ‘knew that they’d been with Jesus’.

Three times in Acts 4 it speaks of the Boldness amongst believers;

29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with GREAT BOLDNESS. 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God BOLDLY.

There are some seven references in the Book of Acts to the believers testifying Fearlessly/Boldly. Miracles were done in the Lord’s name but these ordinary, unschooled men and women were filled with great boldness for their Lord.

27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had PREACHED FEARLESSLY preached in the name of Jesus. Acts 9

So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, SPEAKING BOLDLY FOR THE LORD, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders. Acts 14

It’s apparent that the outpouring of the Spirit filled the new believers with supernatural power at the birth of the Church in Jerusalem. Then Paul met Christ on the road to Damascus and was radically changed, preaching the Good News to the Gentiles. He spoke the Word to different people in different cultures and many came to Faith.

12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing and forceful people lay hold of it. Matthew 11:12

Our Father has no thought of backing off from this battle, He’s never going to let up until His son’s Bride is fully formed and all creation is under Christ’s rule. The Church that brings this about will have Boldness and Power unknown today.

The last recorded words of Paul in Acts 28 still show a determination to spread the Good News of Christ;

30 For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. 31 He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with ALL BOLDNESS and without hindrance!

A last quote from David, Psalm 138 who acknowledged that it was God who’d made him BOLD;

When I called, you answered me;
    you greatly emboldened me or MADE ME BOLD AND STOUT-HEARTED.

God will have a Bold and Fearless Church to work out His plan and purpose and we’re called to be a part of it, Hallelujah.

God bless and keep you today.

11 SO IS MY WORD that goes out from my mouth: IT WILL NOT RETURN TO ME EMPTY, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
    neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord. Isaiah 55

God declared His thoughts and His ways are different from those of mankind. He sees things from a Heavenly and eternal perspective, whereas we’re usually more focused on the immediate and often trying to avoid circumstances ordained by God.

The chapter concludes with a powerful speech by God Himself;

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
    so are my ways higher than your ways
    and my thoughts than your thoughts.

God emphasises that His ways are Higher than men’s and Paul reinforces this in his letter to the Corinthians when talking of Christ’s crucifixion.

For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength. 1 Corinthians 1:25

10 As the rain and the snow
    come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
    without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
    so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 SO IS MY WORD that goes out from my mouth:
    IT WILL NOT RETURN TO ME EMPTY,
but will accomplish what I desire
    and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

God likens His own word to the rain and snow from Heaven, bringing life to the earth, the plants bud and flourish when the rain comes down from heaven. We can speak God’s Word over our own lives today and expect new life to begin to manifest. Truly God’s Word doesn’t return to HIM OR US without effect! I read of a couple in Ministry who were very short of finance and they began to proclaim Deuteronomy 28, the Blessings and Curses chapter. They probably held onto the blessings and rebuked the curses. It took about eighteen months before things really shifted and they just had to keep at it, no other option! Derek Prince and his wife Ruth proclaimed 2 Corinthians 9:8 daily for the needs of the ministry;

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9

Many of the Lord’s people have come through very difficult times recently, a deliberate assault of the enemy, but God has been fighting on our behalf. Isaiah 55 ends with a quaint blessing;

12 You will go out in joy
    and be led forth in peace; (Amen, Yes Lord)
the mountains and hills
    will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
    will clap their hands. (Nature will be blessed with us)
13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper,
    and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This will be for the Lord’s renown,
    for an everlasting sign,
    that will endure forever.”

We have lived through difficult times but I believe Heaven’s blessings are coming to the earth now. We have a part to play but God is moving on behalf of His people and ‘for His renown’. Hold on until the blessing manifests, it is coming.

God bless and keep you today.

6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Acts 3:6

One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. Acts 3

Peter and John were going up to the Temple at the time of Prayer, a set time of the day. They may have seen the man before, but this time they stopped with him. None of us sees things first time, every time! The great apostle Paul was followed for many days by a woman with a spirit;

17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” Acts 16

She kept doing it for many days until Paul took authority and rebuked the spirit and it left her.

Peter spoke to this man who was unable to walk and told him to give them his attention. He told the man to fix his attention on them. He had to become focused to receive his miracle;

Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. Acts 3

There would never have been a problem if they’d given the poor beggar money, the currency of this world, but he received something totally unexpected. They used the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Neither the religious leaders, nor the powers of darkness wanted that name made public in any way. They’d killed Jesus and thought that was an end to it, but now His disciples were using His name with exactly the same results, outstanding miracles.

When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. Acts 3

‘When all the people saw him’; the people saw the miracle and came to find out what had happened the man who’d been crippled for over forty years. Acts 4:22

Peter and John had a willing audience, followed by another confrontation with the religious hierarchy. A miracle, a message and a showdown. Peter was used to demonstrate the first physical miracle in Acts and then to bring the Good News of Christ to the people of Jerusalem. He had to be willing to stand up for the Name of Jesus publicly and before those who wanted to hide that name. God is going to move and reveal His power again in a greater measure than in the early Church. May we have boldness like Peter to use His name and stand for Him in our day.

God bless and keep you today.

14 WITH ONE ACCORD (Harmony, close agreement) they all continued in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. Acts 1:14

On one occasion, WHILE HE WAS EATING WITH THEM, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptised with water, but in a few days you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.”

Don’t limit the way God can speak with you! Jesus told His disciples about the coming baptism in the Spirit (hugely significant event) while they ate together. We may be having a tea/coffee with someone and God may use that time to say something important to us while we’re relaxed. When we’re relaxed and our defences are lowered we may be much more receptive to the soft voice of the Spirit. IT’S OFTEN WHEN WE’RE NOT THINKING ABOUT AN IMPORTANT MATTER THAT THE ANSWER WILL COME.

 14 WITH ONE ACCORD (Harmony, close agreement) they all continued in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

15 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16 and said,

I believe we underestimate the power of agreement, the Harmony we have with those closest to us. (This was already a close-knit group after all they’d been through with the Lord. ) Yes of course waiting in prayer brings a spiritual dimension that can’t come in any other way, but close fellowship and friendship is also very significant. Peter used this platform of unity and Harmony to bring God’s word to choose another apostle.

In Acts 10 we read the account of Peter and the others visit to the house of Cornelius, initiated by the vision from the Holy Spirit. Peter had been cautious and brought six other brothers with him Acts 11:12. He used wisdom even after he’d had direct revelation from heaven.

The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers from Joppa went along. 24 The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and HAD CALLED TOGETHER HIS RELATIVES AND CLOSE FRIENDS. Acts 10

Those who’d gathered with Cornelius were family and close friends. GOD USED RELATIONSHIPS TO BIRTH THE FIRST CHURCH AMONG THE GENTILES. There’s wisdom in this because that group would still be together when Peter and the others left, it was already a nucleus through their existing bonds. Once again God’s purpose was outworked through a close unity.

A similar, but different delivery took place in Old Testament times with Rahab in Jericho.

23 So the young men who had done the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother, her brothers and sisters and all who belonged to her. They brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside the camp of Israel. Joshua 6

Rahab, one of the heroes of Faith in Hebrews 11, AND ALL WHO BELONGED TO HER WERE RESCUED BECAUSE OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP.  That’s why it’s so important who we relate to, our futures may depend on our relationships at some point.

God bless and keep you today.

GUIDANCE – Keep it Simple and Trust the Lord. Acts 1:23, 24

GUIDANCE – Keep it Simple and Trust the Lord.

The example we looked at yesterday in Acts 1, choosing Judas’ replacement, is important because it was the First Corporate Decision of the body of believers on earth. Peter knew what the scripture called for, so they were obligated to get on with it;

‘May another take his place of leadership.’ (Psalm 109:8)

21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witnesswith us of his resurrection.” Acts 1

Peter gave some important directions, it would have to be someone who’d been with the Lord and all of them from the beginning. WE USUALLY NEED A DIRECTION TO BEGIN to look and the Lord can redirect us as needed. (A moving ship is easier to guide than a stationary one!) The famous Irish missionary, Amy Carmichael, went to Japan at first and thought that would be the destiny for her life’s work but it was with the young girls of India. Right Work and Right Heart, but wrong location.

Our Part and God’s Part, mostly we need both!

23 SO THEY NOMINATED (took a first step) TWO MEN: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24 THEN THEY PRAYED (brought God into the centre of their decision), “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two YOU HAVE CHOSEN 25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” 26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.

They prayed and trusted God for the right outcome. This was a momentous decision regarding the foundation of Christ’s Church here on earth and yet it seemed to have been quite a simple process.

Derek Prince described how he met and married his second wife, Ruth. He’d had a vision of her sitting at the bottom of a steep hill, with a winding path to the summit. She was in an unusual coloured dress and sat in a strange pose because of pain in her back. They’d both prayed about their future relationship, very important for man of God with a significant ministry. There were some hindrances for a time to their intended relationship. They each agreed to put it on God’s altar and pray, without contact for three months. At the end of that time they went ahead with their marriage.

Two things, our emotions can be very powerful in personal situations. Sometimes it’s good to wait and let God choose. He also said that one of the best bits of non-scriptural advice he’d heard was, ‘If you don’t know what to do, DO NOTHING’. BEST TO KNOW WE’RE ON THE RIGHT PATH ‘BEFORE’ STEPPING OUT.

ARE THERE HOLES/WEAK PLACES THAT NEED TO BE FILLED BEFORE WE CAN GO FORWARD IN OUR CALLINGS? Peter called the disciples to fill the Hole. Acts 2:20, Psalm 109:8

We just have to be willing to be used, to take our place. Everyone has been called and sent here for a purpose.

Peter was Christ’s successor, what a thought it is that someone as fallible as Peter, with all his weaknesses was the one who actually became the new leader of the Church.

Peter was the one on whom the spotlight fell through the first part of Acts. He was the one used by the Spirit at the birth of the Church.

Once Jesus was taken up to Heaven, His followers withdrew to the upper room, a small group waiting and praying. The first thing recorded was an item of business, but it’s important to note. Peter acknowledged Judas was gone but said that he needed to be replaced.

15 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16 and said, “Brothers and sisters, the Scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus. 17 He was one of our number and shared in our ministry.” Acts 1

We’re not told the reason why Judas had to be replaced, though Twelve is the number of government and the Church (Ecclesia) is called to govern here on earth. We have drawn back to our religious assemblies but the Lord is calling us to govern again. Before the disciples could do anything, the gap left by Judas’ demise had to be filled. ARE THERE HOLES/WEAK PLACES THAT NEED TO BE FILLED BEFORE WE CAN GO FORWARD IN OUR CALLINGS? Peter called the disciples to fill the Hole.

“‘May another take his place of leadership.’(Psalm 109:8)

21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witnesswith us of his resurrection.”

The Lord can work with us and forgive us for past failures and even present ones, but we can’t face battles with parts of our armour missing and not intact. God was getting ready for a mighty move of His Spirit to forever change how people would worship Him across the earth. But first the gap had to be plugged and then the Spirit released.

It may be best for some of us to ask God’s Spirit to reveal any gaps in our lives that need filling today. God can move with power at any time, but the company of believers have to be prepared beforehand. Peter, no doubt led by the Spirit called for this be done in private before they were thrust into the public arena.

May God bless and keep you today.

19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16

Peter and the other disciples were exposed to Godly wisdom and supernatural experiences by being with Jesus and we should be as well.

15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16

Jesus asked a question to draw out the disciples, ‘Who am I?’ That’s a question everyone needs to have settled today, especially if we’re going to serve Him in any way!

Peter was the one who answered and Jesus in turn responded by identifying the source of Peter’s answer.

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.”

Jesus went on to deliver further revelation about the coming of His Church and our ultimate victory.

18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

There are two words in Greek for ‘Rock’ and one (Petra) means bedrock, that’s where a building needs to be founded on. Peter (Petros, a stone) is not the bedrock of the Church, Christ Himself is the only foundation for His Church. In saying the next words Christ told us and also the powers and principalities, that the Church will conquer; ‘The gates of Hades will NOT OVERCOME IT’. The final outcome is never in doubt, but there’s a battle to be won. Then He gave us a promise of authority extending into heaven, the realm of the spirit. These revelations are not available anywhere other than in the Word of God.

Some of us may be waiting for Christ to move on our behalf, but He’s delegated authority to us and we have power over our enemies. We must speak out and use what’s been given us. He will not do everything for us, we have to take our rightful place as His body here on earth. Don’t be afraid to speak out and bind the enemy in our own lives and our families. Jesus gave us this authority to use now!

20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

The things that Jesus revealed to His disciples were not to be spoken out to others. Only those with Jesus were shown these things. Surely it’s the same today, the closer we walk with the Lord the more light we’ll have, the greater our understanding will be. But we also have the advantage of knowing the secret things He spoke to His disciples, but we need to act of them.

May God bless and keep you today.

31 IMMEDIATELY JESUS REACHED OUT HIS HAND AND CAUGHT HIM. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:31

Two accounts of Jesus and Peter unique to Matthew.

Jesus caught the disciples unawares as He came walking out to them on the Sea of Galilee in the nighttime.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said. Matthew 14

Peter did have a natural boldness, more so than the others. Sometimes it took him out of his depth (no pun intended), but the Lord was able to use his boldness at the birth of the Church. He left the boat and started walking towards Jesus;

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Peter looked away from Jesus to the storm around him and began to sink. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus when we’re going through the storms of this life!

31 IMMEDIATELY JESUS REACHED OUT HIS HAND AND CAUGHT HIM. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” (Check Isaiah 41:10 – uphold you with my Hand)

Jesus responded ‘immediately’ and He gave Peter His hand. He didn’t just give advice, He reached out personally. (The boat also immediately reached the far shore, storm gone. John 6:21)

Some time ago I was praying with an artist friend who has the gifting of a seer. As we prayed he told me he saw a hand reaching down and taking hold of my right hand. I don’t recall what we were praying about but Heaven reached down and took my hand, just like Jesus did with Peter.

The second account of Jesus and Peter happened after they’d arrived at Capernaum, north west end of the Galilee.

24 After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?”

25 “Yes, he does,” he replied. Matthew 17

The religious came looking for their tax. Religion is always interested in money!  Peter knew that Jesus did pay it.

When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” he asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own children or from others?”

26 “From others,” Peter answered.

Jesus knew the claim for money had been made to Peter and asked him who was entitled to pay the tax.

“Then the children are exempt,” Jesus said to him. 27 “But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”

For once Jesus didn’t challenge the religious, but He paid the tax. There are times when we also should conform to the systems of the world in which we live, even though they may be corrupt. The money was provided by a miracle tailor made for Peter the fisherman, ‘the first fish will have a coin in it’s mouth for the right amount’. Peter must have laughed when he opened the fish’s mouth and saw it.

God bless and keep you today.

8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” John 13

“No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”

Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” John 13

Some things were non-negotiable with the Lord especially as He was nearing the time of His departure and return to the Father. As usual, Peter was the one who felt he couldn’t allow Jesus to wash his feet and tried to dissuade Him from performing such a lowly task before others. Peter’s motives  were sincere but Jesus insisted that if Peter wanted to be counted with Him he must accept the public washing of his feet. Peter often had his own opinions, but Jesus worked with him to bring him along God’s path for his life. He does the same with many of us today.

He said, “If I have found Favour in your eyes, my lord (or Lord), do not pass your servant by. Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree. Genesis 18

The first place where the washing of feet is mentioned in the Bible, was when the Lord came down Himself to judge all that was happening in Sodom and Gomorrah. It was also when Abraham and Sarah received the promise of a miracle son, Isaac. Genesis 18:10, 14 Death was coming to the sinful, despite Abraham’s intercession and LIFE BY A MIRACLE BIRTH.

32 So the man went to the house, and the camels were unloaded. Straw and fodder were brought for the camels, and water for him and his men to wash their feet. 33 Then food was set before him, but he said, “I will not eat until I have told you what I have to say.” Genesis 24

Another very important occurrence was the meeting of Abraham’s chief servant (symbolic of the Holy Spirit) with Rebekah, when seeking a wife for Isaac. Again the provision of precious water for the travellers to wash their feet.

No widow may be put on the list of widows unless she is over sixty, has been faithful to her husband, 10 and is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints, helping those in trouble and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds. 1 Timothy 5

The New Testament Church had to care for the needs of their widows, but Paul laid down certain conditions, no doubt very politically incorrect by present day standards. But the widows did receive help when they had no other support.

14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them (THE BLESSING IS IN THE DOING) John 13

Jesus laid down the example while still with His own disciples and He urged them and us to follow His example. Nothing given for Him is ever wasted and He is no man’s debtor.

God bless and keep you today.

(It’s a very beautiful day in N.Ireland today, a true blessing!)
