3 TRUST in the Lord and DO GOOD;
dwell in the land and ENJOY SAFE PASTURE.
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37
Psalm 37 is one of David’s longer psalms and it’s one of my favourite psalms, especially the earlier verses. The verse above begins with the direction to Trust in the Lord AND To Do Good, just as we saw last week in Titus (Good is stated 8 times in three short chapters). We’re told to Trust and To Do; both are needed.
It was the second line of the verse which spoke to me most this time, ‘dwell in the Land and ENJOY SAFE PASTURE’. God tells us through David to ENJOY Safe Pasture, yet David was constantly on the run and fleeing for his life. There may seem to be a contradiction in David’s many struggles and God’s Spirit using him to tell us to Enjoy Safe Pasture. GOD KEPT DAVID IN ALL HIS STRUGGLES AND HE’S ABLE TO KEEP US TOO.
4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
6 This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them. Psalm 34
It would be encouraging to declare and proclaim these words over your own life if you’re in a time of testing right now.
David’s testimony wasn’t untried theory, he knew God had kept him through many scary situations in his life. He didn’t want to be in those tests and neither might we, but it’s in the tests that our faith grows and we really trust God.
We may be thinking that’s alright for David, he was a warrior trained to fight through many battles, but what about us. God may well be training us not to give up when we face difficulties, but it’s His keeping power we’re depending on.
11 But the MEEK will inherit the land
and ENJOY PEACE AND PROSPERITY. Psalm 37
Another good verse to speak out over our own lives, God works through our confession – We/I will inherit … and Enjoy Peace and Prosperity (Personalise the word and speak it).
This time it’s the Meek who will Enjoy the blessings (Jesus said the same thing in Matthew 5:5, one of the Beatitudes).
God urges us to Trust Him and Enjoy His care and blessings, even in the midst of the challenges we face. God is Faithful and Loving towards all He has made.
God bless and keep you today.
