21 Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18

The mouth or tongue is a double-edged sword (can cut both ways).

21 Life and death are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18 HCSB

20 Words satisfy the mind as much as fruit does the stomach;
    good talk is as gratifying as a good harvest.

21 Words kill, words give life;
    they’re either poison or fruit—you choose. Prov. 18 MSG

The Bible has much to say about the power of the tongue and particularly in reference to it as a double edged-sword.

We finished in Revelation 19 on Easter Monday with the angel telling John;

Then the angel said to me, ‘BLESSED are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’ And he added, ‘These are the true words of God.’ Revelation 19

There is a huge future blessing for those who will be invited to the ‘wedding feast of the Lamb’, we’ll all want to be there!

Revelation 19 continues with the description of the Lord leading the armies of Heaven TO VICTORY in a great End Time battle.

15 COMING OUT OF HIS MOUTH IS A SHARP SWORD with which to strike down the nations. ‘He will rule them with an iron sceptre.’ Revelation 19

The two of them (the beast and the false prophet) were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulphur. 21 The rest were killed with the SWORD COMING OUT OF THE MOUTH of the rider on the horse … Revelation 19

The Lord’s sword is a weapon of victory and it’s connected to His mouth, what He’s spoken.

Earlier in Revelation, when John first saw Jesus as the risen Lord He once again appeared with a double-edged sword in His mouth;

16 In his right hand he held seven stars (angels), and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. Revelation 1

The Risen Lord, then had some praise and also words of warning to the Church of Pergamum;

12 ‘To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:

These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. Revelation 2

16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

The sword in the Lord’s mouth was a weapon to fight against evil in His Church and ultimately to destroy wickedness from the whole of creation.

We’ve recently seen in the Gospels during the Easter Message that Jesus ‘suffered much in silence’, but that time has passed. The Lord is now speaking and the whole of creation will have to listen. The Lord’s eyes are on both those who have perpetrated wickedness on earth and those who are guilty within the Church. Nothing is hidden from His sight, but He still gave people opportunity to repent, so He wouldn’t have to bring judgement.

May God help us today to control our tongues and submit them for His Kingdom purpose today.
