Rescued two, reaped many – is Rahab, a demonstration of sowing and reaping?
The account of Rahab, is one of my favourite Bible characters but I never realised until today that it could also represent an example of sowing and reaping.
Rahab, at great personal risk, rescued the two spies from Israel;
4 But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. She said, ‘Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they had come from. Joshua 2
12 ‘Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family, (Like for like) because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign 13 that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them – and that you will save us from death.’
14 ‘Our lives for your lives!’ the men assured her. ‘If you don’t tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the Lord gives us the land.’ Joshua 2
Rahab rescued the two Israelites and saved her whole family in return, RESCUED TWO, SAVED MANY.
25 But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho – and she lives among the Israelites to this day. Joshua 6
Rahab understood what the God of Israel was going to do to Jericho and it’s people and she acted in faith to rescue her family. She had authority to rescue ‘all who belonged to her, all who stayed with her inside her house’.
She rescued a pair of spies, two men and she received the lives of her household in return.
Sowing isn’t always in terms of money, but our faith will be involved. BE CREATIVE, HOW CAN YOU SOW SOMETHING TODAY AND REAP A HARVEST IN THE FUTURE?
24 “‘“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
27 “So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.” Numbers 6
