‘RATHER, LET IT (The Shadow) GO BACK TEN STEPS.’ 2 Kings 20

A miraculous prophetic sign to confirm life and not death for Hezekiah, King of Judah. 2 Kings 20; Isaiah 38

Peter and the apostles were carrying healing and life, so much that people wanted even his shadow to fall on their  sick. Acts 5

Isaiah saw down the ages and prophesied the coming of the Lord in the Galilee;

16 the people living in darkness
    have seen a GREAT LIGHT;
on those living in the LAND OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH
    A LIGHT HAS DAWNED.’ Matthew 4

God sent Jesus, the Great Light from Heaven, to deal with the Shadow of Death over the lives of all people.

38 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, ‘This is what the Lord says: put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.’ Isaiah 38

Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and wept bitterly at this news from the prophet Isaiah. He pleaded his case and God answered him (we are allowed to remind God of things).

‘Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.’ 2 Kings 20

Isaiah immediately received a word, before he left the middle court, to return and tell Hezekiah that the Lord would heal him and give him fifteen more years. He would go up to the Temple of the Lord in just three more days. Isaiah told the King’s attendants to prepare a poultice of figs and put it on the boil. 2 Kings 20:7

Hezekiah had asked Isaiah how he would know that he would go up to the Temple of the Lord on the third day?

Isaiah answered, ‘This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: SHALL THE SHADOW GO FORWARD TEN STEPS, OR SHALL IT GO BACK TEN STEPS?’

10 ‘It is a simple matter for the shadow to go forward ten steps,’ said Hezekiah. ‘RATHER, LET IT GO BACK TEN STEPS.’ 2 Kings 20

Isaiah offered King Hezekiah a sign he would be healed by the turning back of the Shadow, the passage of the sun.

11 Then the prophet Isaiah called on the Lord, and the Lord made the shadow go back the ten steps it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.

Everything, including time, is in God’s hands, so the shadow moved back the ten paces and Hezekiah was healed. God used THIS SHADOW to confirm that the King’s life would be spared. (Fifteen is 3 X 5 and five is Grace … Grace, Grace, Grace to Hezekiah).

God bless and keep you today.

He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91
