They asked each other, ‘Who will roll the stone away?’ Mark 16:3

Stones were placed as a covering and protection, but often they had to be moved to give access within.

29 Then Jacob continued on his journey and came to the land of the eastern peoples. There he saw a well in the open country, with three flocks of sheep lying near it because the flocks were watered from that well. The stone over the mouth of the well was large. Genesis 29

Jacob arrived at his new home to a well surrounded by sheep, needing to be watered.

While he was still talking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she was a shepherd. 10 When Jacob saw Rachel daughter of his uncle Laban, and Laban’s sheep, he went over and rolled the stone away from the mouth of the well and watered his uncle’s sheep. 11 Then Jacob kissed Rachel and began to weep aloud. Genesis 29

THE SHEEP HAD TO BE WATERED, THEY COULDN’T WATER THEMSELVES. There may be some reading this today who have a calling on their lives, evangelists, pastors, etc to help others get to the Water of Life. The sheep needed the help of the shepherds, they couldn’t survive without their care. THE SHEEP NEED YOU!

Another stone in the New Testament was the stone that covered Jesus’ tomb. The women who went there after the Sabbath wondered how they would get into the tomb.

28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. Matthew 28

God had sent an angel to move the large stone and reveal the empty tomb. Christ had risen and people had to know that death couldn’t hold Him.

The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: “He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.” Now I have told you.’ Matthew 28

Some stones can and should be moved by people, parts of the body with callings to help others. Other stones are too large for us to move, but the Lord will send His angels to help us and we should expect Heaven’s help in our times.
