Don’t lose a minute, build on what you’ve been given. 2 Peter 1:5 MSG
After Jesus washed the disciples’ feet He made a very poignant statement;
He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me. John 13:18b; Psalm 41:9
Jesus was fully aware that the devil was at work right in the midst of His own disciples. He knew that Judas was going to betray Him, the man who shared the Lord’s bread with Him. Satan used someone close to Jesus (and also King David, two of his sons) to try and destroy Him. Jesus said at the beginning of the same verse, John 13:18a, ‘I am not referring to you all (they weren’t all guilty); I know those I have chosen’. The Lord has chosen each of us individually, but we do have free choices to make. He and the Father love us unconditionally, as I shared yesterday about nurse Edith Cavell, but the devil has a season during our time on earth to try and lure us away from the Lord.
Peter must have been thinking of this when he wrote, or the Spirit dictated, his second epistle;
Don’t put it off
3-4 Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust.
5-9 So don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others. With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without its reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus. Without these qualities you can’t see what’s right before you, oblivious that your old sinful life has been wiped off the books.
10-11 So, friends, confirm God’s invitation to you, his choice of you. Don’t put it off; do it now. Do this, and you’ll have your life on a firm footing, the streets paved and the way wide open into the eternal kingdom of our Master and Savior, Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:3-11 MSG
God’s invitation is just the beginning, we have to walk and live out the path chosen for each of us. God has called us and will help us step by step along the way, until eternity, never to be separated again.
