1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, GET READY TO CROSS the Jordan River into the land I AM ABOUT TO GIVE THEM — to the Israelites. Joshua 1
The Lord spoke to Joshua and the Israelites after the death of Moses. What would Israel do now, they’d lost the man who’d brought them out of Egypt and led them for forty years? God said, ‘Moses is dead, that time is over, now get ready to cross over, INTO YOUR INHERITANCE’. God had begun something with Israel, just as He has with His Church, but HE’S MOVING ON TO THE NEXT PHASE. We have to be ready and committed to move along with Him.
God brought His people out of slavery in Egypt, but they’d refused to go over and possess the inheritance He had allocated them. It’s remarkable that both Israel and the Church today, at times would rather go back, than step over into the good promises God has for our lives. THERE CAN BE NO TURNING BACK FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD.
Song by Cedarmont Kids, 1993
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
2. Tho’ none go with me, I still will follow,
Tho’ none go with me I still will follow,
Tho’ none go with me, I still will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.
We may have suffered setbacks in our lives but we can’t allow them to define us. Israel had lost Moses, but a New Day and a glorious future lay before them, however they had to cross over and face the giants of Canaan to enter in.
3 I will give you EVERY PLACE WHERE YOU SET YOUR FOOT, as I promised Moses.
WE have to cross over in order to inherit the promises God has for our lives.
The God who had been with Moses for 40 years would also be with Joshua.
The same God who has led the Church for centuries will be with us now.
The same God who has brought you this far in your life will be with you now.
Israel, a nation of slaves, would soon become the conquerors of mighty kings and possess their lands and cities, because those people feared the God of Israel. God’s people, corporately and individually, have a destiny to take this earth back for Him and He’s willing to help us defeat our enemies.
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8
May the Lord bless and keep you today. Immanuel, God is with us.
