132 Turn to me and have mercy on me,
as you always do to those who love your name.
133 DIRECT MY FOOTSTEPS according to your word;
let no sin rule over me. Psalm 119
Two verses from the longest book in the Bible, Psalm 119. Verse 132 is the psalmist’s reassurance of God’s mercy for those who love His Name – GOD IS DISPOSED TO BE MERCIFUL, not judgemental, to those who love Him, Selah (pause and consider).
The following verse, 133, notes the psalmist asking God for direction. Many of us believe that we can ‘DIRECT’ our own lives, but that may be a dangerous position to take at the present time. We may not fully comprehend the current situations we face, so better to invite the Lord to help and guide us before we step out and get into difficulties.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and HE WILL MAKE YOUR PATHS STRAIGHT/Direct your paths. Proverbs 3
A further couple of well known verses from Proverbs, once again urging us to trust the Lord rather than our own understanding. We may not be able to change what’s happened in the past, but we can learn from it and ask the Lord to help and guide us in the future. His word reassures us that when we’re willing to lay down our own will that He’ll help and guide us in the right way for our lives.
I believe that God has prepared paths for all of us to walk in and His ways are best for us. We need both humility and faith to walk and take His paths for our lives. It’s interesting that long before the Lord came into this world that the prophets were declaring that God was preparing and laying out the path for His life.
3 A voice of one calling:
‘In the wilderness prepare
the way for the Lord;
make straight in the desert
a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be raised up,
every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain.
5 And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
and all people will see it together.
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.’ Isaiah 40
Jesus didn’t just parachute down to earth and have to make His own way around, God had a plan and that plan will continue in the present day and right through to the end of this age! The devil and his tribe oppose it but God the Father will see that it’s perfectly fulfilled.
7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:
He said to me, ‘You are my son;
today I have become your father.
8 Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession. Psalm 2
The family of God, the Church and Israel, have the unique privilege of participating in this great project, seeing the rule of God finally restored and His justice re-established across the earth. We may play a small role in all this, but the rewards in following Him here, far outweigh the risks and threats of the enemy.
