‘Jesus came to’ …, it’s good to remind ourselves why Christ came.

‘Jesus came to’ …, it’s good to remind ourselves why Christ came.

18 ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
    because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19     to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’ Luke 4, (part of a longer quote in Isaiah 61, entitled the, ‘Year of the Lord’s Favour’)

Jesus came to rescue humanity and to open the way back to God. There are so many blessings quoted in these verses and Jesus said very publicly in the synagogue in Nazareth that they were all fulfilled in Him.

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Matthew 5

Jesus came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets. The Law and the utterances of the Prophets are Divinely inspired and they are completely fulfilled in Christ. He is the only acceptable approach to God. All the other religions are men’s futile attempts to reach a Holy God without obeying Him.

Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 1 John 3

Jesus came to establish the Kingdom of God on earth by destroying the kingdom of the prince of this world. When Christ rose from the grave He went into hell and took the keys of death and hell, Revelation 1:18. That process is still ongoing but there is only one victor in this battle and all that has been written must come to pass.

The Lord bless and keep you today. Immanuel, God is with us.
