Psalm 102 reveals that God has a calendar known only to Himself and those to whom He chooses to reveal it.

Psalm 102 reveals that God has a calendar known only to Himself and those to whom He chooses to reveal it.

The psalm begins with a cry of desperation;

Hear my prayer, Lord;
    let my cry for help come to you.
Do not hide your face from me
    when I am in distress.
Turn your ear to me;
    when I call, answer me quickly. Psalm 102

The next section details the suffering of a man in this life. It begins and ends with the brevity of man’s life here on earth.

For my days vanish like smoke;
    my bones burn like glowing embers.

10 because of your great wrath,
    for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.
11 My days are like the evening shadow;
    I wither away like grass.

The psalmist, perhaps David, declares he feels that God has deserted him and ‘Thrown (him) aside’. But then his outlook changes and he starts to focus on the eternal nature of God and His mercy towards His people.

12 But you, Lord, SIT enthroned forever;
    your renown endures through all generations.
13 You will ARISE and have compassion on Zion,
    FOR IT IS TIME TO SHOW FAVOUR TO HER;
    THE APPOINTED TIME HAS COME

The whole world is in a particular season on God’s calendar at this time and He is moving on behalf of His children. We may, like the psalmist, be tempted to think that God has forgotten us, but we should remember that He is our eternal God. The psalmist said that God would ‘Arise and have compassion on Zion’. Israel has been under attack from within and without for most of the time since it’s rebirth in 1948, YET GOD HAS KEPT HER. I said previously that it had been prophesied that Israel would be in the news again because God is going to root out corruption within. He’s doing the same among the nations today and many people are feeling the effects as the enemy lashes out against the innocent and vulnerable.

15 The nations will fear the name of the Lord,
    all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.
16 For the Lord will rebuild Zion
    and appear in his glory.
17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute;
    he will not despise their plea.

The nations of this world have often ignored God, but there is a time coming on His calendar, when they’re going to have to acknowledge that He rules over all. The rebuilding of Israel since 1948 has been astonishing, both the infrastructure and the population. God’s plans are unstoppable, although people’s circumstances may become difficult for a time, the final outcome will be good for all who trust Him.

18 Let this be written for a future generation,
    that a people not yet created may praise the Lord:
19 ‘The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high,
    from heaven he viewed the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners
    and release those condemned to death.’

This psalm was written for a future generation, a people not yet created. Perhaps part of it was written for this generation, to give us hope in God for these times. WE NEED TO LOOK BEYOND THE IMMEDIATE PROBLEMS AND ASK WHAT’S ON THE OTHER SIDE OF IT ALL. Hallelujah

God bless and keep you today.
