True foundations need to go deep, Luke 6:48

Luke 6:46, Jesus challenges His listeners(Jesus was challenging to be around), “Why do you call Me, Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say”? It’s not enough just to say you agree with Me, you need to act upon what I’m telling you. He goes on to liken this obedience to His Word to a man building a house. True foundations are more than just lip service!

The foundations in any building are usually below ground and therefore unseen, yet they are so important because they support or carry the entire structure. The key thing in any foundation is to be sure it’s laid on undisturbed or original ground. (We spoke yesterday about the disciples going out into the DEEP water, no bottom there, to fish). Jesus says here V48, “He is like a man building a house, who dug down DEEP and laid the foundation on the rock”. I spoke to an engineer once who’d investigated land for a large development and they dug trial holes on the ground. Everything looked fine, but he’d decided to go just a bit deeper with one hole and at the very bottom of the dig they uncovered a piece of brick, not original ground! The foundations would never have held the buildings, like the one in Jesus parable they would have collapsed.

Jesus is the right foundation for our lives and everyone’s life(thanks be to God), but have the foundations gone DEEP enough? We need to submit to the Lord’s dealings in our lives and ensure that we’re really dependent on Him alone. Every life, without exception, is founded on/trusting in something.  A superficial faith will not be able to stand when the floods come, so allow Him to take you deeper.

Luke 6:38, Give and it will be given to you. A GOOD MEASURE, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the MEASURE YOU USE, IT WILL BE MEASURED TO YOU. Amen

God bless you.
