We looked yesterday at the ‘Ten Dreams of Genesis’ and noted that Ten is a significant number in the Word of God. God Himself highlighted that dreams were an important means of speaking to His people. Genesis is the only book of the Torah (first five books of Bible) to contain dreams.
12 Miriam and Aaron BEGAN TO TALK AGAINST MOSES because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. 2 ‘Has the Lord spoken only through Moses?’ they asked. ‘Hasn’t he also spoken through us?’ And the Lord heard this. Numbers 12
Be careful who you ‘SPEAK AGAINST’, rarely does anything good come from it!
6 He said, ‘Listen to my words:
‘When there is a prophet among you,
I, the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions,
I SPEAK TO THEM IN DREAMS (at night in the stillness)
7 But this is not true of my servant Moses;
he is faithful in all my house.
8 With him I speak face to face,
clearly and not in RIDDLES (dreams can be God’s Riddles/Puzzles for us to interpret and some have this gift);
Dreams like prophecy MUST BE TESTED. Do they line up with the Word? (the Holy Spirit never contradicts Himself). Do they sit well/agree with our own spirit? Do they fit our circumstances? Does anyone have something that confirms the dream?
13 If a prophet, or one who FORETELLS BY DREAMS, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, 2 and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, ‘Let us follow other gods’ (gods you have not known) ‘and let us worship them,’ 3 YOU MUST NOT LISTEN to the words of that prophet or dreamer. Deuteronomy 13
The account of Gideon saving Israel from the Midianites contains a dream by someone else, even an enemy! God can use others to speak to us, even though they may not intend to do so.
9 During that night the Lord said to Gideon, ‘Get up, go down against the camp, because I am going to give it into your hands. 10 If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah 11 and LISTEN TO WHAT THEY ARE SAYING (Others May Have GOD’S ANSWER to Your Dilemma). Judges 7
13 Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend (God’s Timing is Perfect, also for us) his dream. ‘I had a dream,’ he was saying. ‘A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed.’
14 His friend responded, ‘This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands.’
15 When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed down and worshipped. (God had answered in an unusual way, be open to the gentle prompts of the Spirit, no matter how odd they may seem) Numbers 7
God bless and keep you today.
